Open Source Push for Indian Schools …

Finally, Indian Schools get an open source content and software push through Shiksha India, a non-profit initiative of Confederation of Indian Industries. Shiksha India was launched in Dec 2001. The program is aimed at providing license free software, content and training to school teachers for e-enablement across 19 states in India. They are actively promoting open source course management software Moodle and mathematics software Geogebra.

I was very excited to hear about Google opening up its e-mail services for Internet domain owners. This made it possible for individuals and organizations to integrate e-mail into their respective websites and provide huge spam free mailboxes with minimum effort and technical knowledge. Google also made available a set of office automation tools for creating documents, spreadhsheet and presentations online.

MIT Open Courseware Project - A Revolutionary Idea

In 2001 when Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) started the open courseware (OCW) project, Anne Margulies, the project director would not have dreamt of the kind of response the project received and the difference it is poised to make for the institution and the students & educators spread across the world.

OCW project is a free publication of course materials used at MIT. At OCW website:

1. Get lecture notes, problem sets, labs and more.

2. Watch lecture videos and demonstrations.
