Jasjit’s Cyberoughts

Despite being an information security consultant, I violated one pillar of information security (Availability) and committed a cardinal sin of not backing up my website and blog configuration when my service provider informed me that they are planning to move this setup to new hardware.

Several things went wrong with the migration. The backup team forgot to restore my DNS zone and database. Consequently I was offline for several days. Now everything is fine and the pain of restoring the site to its original state has made me realize how important it is to practice what you preach.

By the way, when did you backup your cell phone and computer data. If you haven’t done it in recent times, drop everything and DO IT NOW …………
